The Museum has a jam-packed week of events, lectures, and more, which means there’s plenty to do and see! Let’s get started!
On Tuesday, April 12, there’s a Frank Lloyd Wright Gallery Talk scheduled for 1:30 p.m. and on Thursday, April 14, there’s a Frank Lloyd Wright Express Talk scheduled for noon. Come in and learn even more about “America’s greatest architect” and why he is still so relevant today.
Also on Thursday, come learn about “Wright in the Teens: A Magical Moment” at 6:15 p.m. in Lubar Auditorium. This special lecture by award-winning architect and Frank Lloyd Wright Building Conservancy Wright Spirit Award winner Anthony Alofsin will delve into a decade that was personally tumultous but professionally vibrant for Wright. The lecture is free with Museum admission and open to the public. A book signing with Mr. Alofsin will follow.
Friday, April 15 ushers in that most dreaded of days: Tax Day. This April 15, boogie away those IRS-blues at MAM After Dark: Tax MAM. This month’s event features The New Materiality and special one-night-only installations by the students of UWM’s Peck School of the Arts and MIAD. Don’t miss a special 8:30 performance by Nineteen Thirteen, featuring Milwaukee’s own Victor DeLorenzo, formerly of Violent Femmes fame.
And – was your t-shirt design selected in the A.V. Club Milwaukee’s t-shirt design contest? Come to MAM After Dark: Tax MAM and find out! The winning design will be revealed and available for a special one-night-only price.
Saturday, April 16 features two big events at the Museum. There’s still time to register for the Fifth Annual Conservation Seminar: Frank Lloyd Wright and Architecture. This all-day event includes a tour of two Milwaukee-area Wright homes, lunch, and a lesson with Senior Conservator Jim DeYoung on preserving Wright’s architectural drawings and beloved Japanese prints. To register, please call Mel Buchanan at 414-224-3281.
Also on Saturday, head down for a Frank Lloyd Wright Book Salon (Death in a Prairie House) at 10:30 a.m. and a Frank Lloyd Wright Gallery Talk in French at 1:30 p.m.
Finally, the Chipstone Foundation will host an afternoon event called Dialogues on Innovation from 2-4 p.m. Come listen to five artists represented in The New Materiality exhibition discuss their artistic practice, the role of technology in their work, and new directions in contemporary craft.
Need more? Bring the family in for Sketching in the Galleries, Story time in the Galleries, and the Kohl’s Art Generation Gallery and Studio. Remember, kids 12 and under are always free!
What a great week at the Museum! See you soon!
