This week, the Museum opens two new exhibitions and hosts its monthly MAM After Dark event. Plus lectures, gallery talks, and more.
On Thursday, March 10, the Chipstone Foundation opens The New Materiality: Digital Dialogues at the Boundaries of Contemporary Craft in the Museum’s Decorative Arts Gallery on the lower level. This stunning exhibition features sixteen established and emerging artists who push the boundaries of art by combining new technologies with old-school craft. Curated by UWM’s Fo Wilson, the exhibition features work by Donald Fortesque and Lawrence LaBianca, Tim Tate, Sonya Clark, Lia Cook, and more.
Also on Thursday, you can take in a lunch-hour express talk on Frank Lloyd Wright and hear a lecture on Italian Renaissance architect Andrea Palladio at 6:15 p.m.
On Friday, March 11, the Museum mixes it up at MAM After Dark: ReMIX, starting at 5 p.m. Featuring cocktails by Bittercube, a Rube Goldberg demonstration by the students at Pius High School, and the video mash up of 88Nine Radio Milwaukee’s DJ Madhatter and DJ SLYM, this is not your usual MAM After Dark. Plus, there’s a special 7 p.m. tour of Frank Lloyd Wright with chief curator Brady Roberts.
On Saturday, March 12, the Kohl’s Art Generation Gallery will re-open to art fans who are “Just the WRIGHT size.” The redesigned space considers the work of Frank Lloyd Wright and inspires budding architects to create inspired, eco-friendly creations of their own.
As always, there’s drop in tours, sketching in the galleries, and the Kohl’s Art Generation Studio (open Sunday, 10-4), so there’s plenty to do at the Museum. Kids 12 and under are free, so stop in this weekend!
