Dori and Milan Zori have been supporting the Milwaukee Art Museum as Members for more than a decade. Dori Zori—whose name you might recognize—DJs for 88.9 Radio Milwaukee. Milan, an illustrator, designed the Museum Store’s holiday ornament this year featured in the gift guide. Last holiday season, they gifted several memberships, sharing the Museum and all it has to offer with loved ones.
What makes a Milwaukee Art Museum membership a special gift?
A whole bunch of things! For starters, everyone needs more art in their life. Art belongs to everyone, and we think people forget that. The memberships were our way of reminding people we know that there’s a big beautiful building full of art for them to enjoy anytime they want.
But the main thing is sharing a thing we love with the people we love. Whether we’re here for Art in Bloom, for a special exhibition opening, or on a random day with our earbuds in trying to find the perfect song for each piece of art we’re looking at, the Museum brings us so much joy. Gifting memberships is our way of ensuring everyone gets to experience that same joy.
What do you enjoy most about being Members?
The biggest thing is being able to walk in and enjoy the art anytime we want. Life is tough. Some days you just need to see something beautiful, and this building is full of beautiful somethings. We also enjoy being able to pop into another city’s art museum when we’re out of town. Upgrade and get that perk, y’all!
What is your favorite memory at the Museum?
It’s hard for either of us to pick just one, but those first MAM After Dark events come to mind. (Dori DJ’d a few of them, and Milan showed and made art at others.) Those remind us of the early days of our relationship.
