People travel from all over to experience the treasured artworks at the Milwaukee Art Museum. But sometimes, the objects themselves venture out to delight viewers at other institutions.
As part of our mission to share extraordinary works of art, we lend works to museums around the world. (And on one occasion, in 1977, two paintings even went on loan to the official residence of Vice President Walter Mondale in Washington, DC.) Curators at peer institutions across the globe are aware of our strong collection and request works to tell more comprehensive and exciting stories in special exhibitions. We also borrow works, bringing together objects to create compelling displays that we could not produce from our collection alone.
Recently, our in-demand artworks have been accumulating frequent flyer miles. They’ve traveled to New York, Paris, Madrid, and London, among other places—and others are jetting off soon!
