Each work of art holds countless stories. Dip into a few of them. Join us any (every!) weekend at 2 p.m. for one-of-a-kind themed tours that explore artworks in the Museum’s vast collection.

With nearly 2,000 artworks on view in the collection galleries at any given time, how do you even begin to get to know them all? The Milwaukee Art Museum docents are here to help! Every Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m., docents lead drop-in tours that feature engaging and thought-provoking thematic selections from the Museum’s vast collection. These knowledgeable Museum ambassadors will guide you through the galleries, showcasing the incredible range of artistic creations on view. The docents carefully construct their own unique tours, making each experience one of a kind. Drop-in tours are offered year-round, and there’s always a full lineup of exciting themes available. Be sure to visit the Museum for drop-in tours more than once throughout each month to get a new docent’s take on each theme. Every work of art can tell countless stories. And one tour—even multiple visits over several years!—can only scratch the surface.

Upcoming tours

We look forward to seeing you often throughout the summer. Remember each tour is an opportunity to experience something new or gain fresh insights into a longtime favorite in the collection. Repeat visits are a must!

Thurs, June 5: Free Day + Celebration: Community
(Special drop-in tour at 3 p.m.)
For this daylong (themed!) celebration, the Museum is opening its doors for family and friends to connect through art, music, movement, and more. We’re highlighting communities we’re born into, we choose, that choose us, that embrace us for who we are, that challenge us—community in all its forms and all the love and richness the people who are a part of it bring into our lives. Our drop-in tour on this day will feature artists and artworks connected to Pride Month and Juneteenth.

Sun, June 15: Father’s Day
Bring the father figures in your life to the Museum during Lakefront Festival of Art to explore artworks that relate to fatherhood. Whether your special person enjoys spending time with family, participating in certain hobbies or activities, staying at home, or traveling, we’ve got an artwork they’re sure to love.

Sat, June 21 and 28: Music and Art
While the lakefront comes alive during Milwaukee’s favorite music festival, stop into the Museum for a tour of artworks with musical connections. This tour will satisfy the senses while you visit our comfortably air-conditioned galleries.

Saturdays, July: Celebrating American Artists
